Getting Ready For Summer? How To Take Care Of The Start-Up Pool Maintenance

Posted on

You may be dealing with the seasonal effects of winter right now, but summer will be here in a few short months. When it does return, you'll want to start using your swimming pool as soon as possible. If you're like most homeowners, you've had your swimming pool shut down and out of operation during the fall and winter months. If that's the case, you'll need to do some maintenance to get your pool ready for use. If you're new to pool ownership, you might not be familiar with the steps it takes to get your swimming pool ready for use. Here are some tips that will help you get your pool ready for summer.

Remove Cover for Inspection

If your pool has been covered since last summer, you'll need to remove it as soon as the weather warms up. You might not realise this, but leaving the cover on your pool for too long can cause serious water problems. First, water can stagnate when covered for extended periods of time. Second, the water and debris that accumulates on the cover can contaminate your pool as soon as it's removed. Uncovering your pool as soon as the weather warms up will give you enough time to sanitise your pool for summer use.

Bring Water Up to Proper Level

If you've had your pool covered for the past several months, the water level might have gone down a bit. That's because water will evaporate whether the pool has been covered or not. Because of that, it's important that you bring the water up to the proper level. Without a proper water level, your filter and pump won't function effectively.

Inspect the Pump and Filter System

If you're taking steps to get your pool up and running for summer, you'll need to make sure that the filtration system is working properly. While your pump was inactive during the winter, it could have gotten clogged with algae and debris. The same is true for the filter. Because of that, it's important that you clean the pump and filter as soon as possible. Once you've got the system clean, activate the pump to get the water circulated.

Arrange for Preseason Maintenance

If you want to make sure that your pool is ready to jump into as soon as the weather warms up, be sure to arrange for preseason maintenance. During the preseason maintenance call, your pool service will provide a professional cleaning and stabilise all of the chemical levels in your pool. For added protection, it's important that you continue with professional pool maintenance throughout the summer. Contact a swimming pool maintenance service for more information.
